The Federal Minister for Communication Dr. Arbab Alamgir Khan has said that no further delay would be tolerated in the execution of Karachi-Hyderabad Superhighway. He made these remarks today while visiting the project along with senior officials from National Highway Authority. The minister visited various sections of the highway where he was briefed about the overall progress on the project.
The Minister noted that the pace of work on the project was not up to the mark and directed the concerned officials to accelerate the progress. He said that the Super Highway was a priority project of NHA and therefore every effort should be made to complete it in time in order to save the road users from further inconvenience. The minister said that present government believed in working for the betterment of people and development works were carried out for the comfort of general public. He said the government had planned to convert the existing road into a six lane motorway which would cost over 8 billion rupees. The Minister was informed that the project would be completed in three years and would include construction of 11 Interchanges, 12 toll plazas, 6 weigh stations and 2 service areas equipped with all the modern facilities. He said that 136 km long highway would be made protected against illegal encroachments.
The Federal Minister remarked that Sindh province was critical for country’s economic progress and therefore the present government was paying special attention to develop a world class road infrastructure there. He said that super highway, once completed, would provide a vital link between Karachi Port and the rest of the country, thus boasting the overall trade activities.
