NHA GEARING UP TO MEET THE FUTURISTIC NEEDS OF THE REGIONAL TRADE

Executive Board of National Highway Authority met today under Chairmanship of Chairman NHA Major General Imtiaz Ahmed. The Chairman apprised the board about the growing profile of the Authority and the need for capacity building of the institution to bring it at par with the enhanced mandate as a service provider envisaged under government’s vision 2030. He told the board that several new routes have been federalized, existing carriageways dualized and length of National highways under NHA control increased from 6564km to 11485 km.
On the occasion Major General Imtiaz Ahmed expressed his resolve to come up to the expectations pined on the institution by the leadership of the country. He said, our highway system is developing gradually but at the same time have enhanced obligations of the authority manifolds. Pragmatic measures are being taken to meet the domestic as well as the regional trade requirements in the coming years. He said it is also a source of pride for us, that NHA, after completion of Torkham-Jalalabad road in brotherly Afghanistan, is also associated in about 35 roads inside the Jalalabad city. Road construction activities in neighbouring Afghanistan reflect confidence on professional skill and expertise of NHA, he added.
The NHA Executive Board accorded approval to award the contract for construction of Torkham – Jalalabad additional carriageway to FWO. The meeting discussed, in detail, up gradation of the Karachi – Hyderabad Super Highway as Motorway (M-9). The Executive Board also reviewed various aspects of making the Authority financially self sustaining.
The Board appreciated the growing portfolio of NHA and its credentials and supported the idea of strengthening the organization. Commending the road building projects in Afghanistan, the Board members opined that such activity will expand the range of economic cooperation between Pakistan and Afghanistan.
